D.N. SIMMERS

Letting an Umbrella Open Into the Wind

                                    I let

                                                                an umbrella

                                         open into
                                         the wind,
                                         knowing
                                                                it would

              bend backwards,

                                    be ruined.

Maybe it was
              not liking
                          the colour,
or the shape,

              that made me

                                                                want to throw it

                                                          away

                                    even as the rain
              came down.
