CAROUSEL 34 out now

Admin/ January 7, 2015/ Sneak Peek

The new 80 page issue of CAROUSEL (featuring a cover image by Snarkitecture) is in stores now.

C34 features new poetry, fiction and visual pieces by Kemeny Babineau, Kim Fu, Laird Kay, Ruth Marten, Michael Morris, Jason Paradiso, Matt Rader, jp Rodriguez, Daniel Guy Tremblay and Blair Trewartha.

Emily Fitzpatrick has a good conversation with Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist Adam David Brown about the material & magical properties of his diverse art practice.

Mark Laliberte interviews Argentine cartoon-minimalist Pablo Holmberg; to accompany the article, we present nine exclusive English translations of strips from Holmberg’s darkly romantic Eden project.

Jim Johnstone offers the curious reader a survey of Canadian micropresses, highlighting six of Canada’s most diverse small-scale publishers: The Alfred Gustav Press, Baseline Press, Ferno House, Jackpine Press, Junction Books and Thee Hellbox Press.

For our international spotlight, Shannon Anderson looks at the work of rising art star Daniel Arsham — as well as his involvement in Snarkitecture, a collaborative project operating in territories between the disciplines of art and architecture — and his varied practice, which focuses on “the investigation of structure, material and program and how these elements can be manipulated to serve new and imaginative purposes”.

In the ever-popular 4PANEL comics section, Derik A Badman, Christian Bök, Mark Connery, d.w., Jessica Fortner, Jesse Jacobs, Drazne Kozjan, Mark Laliberte, Aaron Linton, Billy Mavreas, Andrei Molotiu, Marc Ngui, Ethan Rilly, Anuj Shrestha and Tin Can Forest continue to unearth the literary and experimental possibilities of the sequential strip.
